TACUGAMA CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARY (TCS)

Mission Statement

TCS is providing the best possible facilities and care to captive chimpanzees in Sierra Leone, while working towards the protection and conservation of the species in the wild.

Objectives

• To collaborate with government to implement existing national and international wildlife laws, especially those provisions contained in the Convention on international trade in endangered spices (CITES)

• To partner with local law enforcement agencies to take action and to promote laws against the trading of Chimpanzees

• To integrate orphaned Chimpanzees into social groups, with a view to gradually rehabilitate them into a semi- wild environment

• To increase the public’s understanding of the plight of Chimpanzees and other wildlife through conservation education initiatives
